I search for words profound
to consider becoming
to consider becoming
extinct
What must it be like
to be the last of your species,
passing unheralded into the
mists of time.
What must it be like
to be the last of your species,
passing unheralded into the
mists of time.
What would you ask with
none to mark your passing,
facing extinction without
distinction
none to mark your passing,
facing extinction without
distinction
Why me?

This is so profound Beverly.
ReplyDeleteI think it would make a damned good book, then movie, Beverly. Every other story I've seen with a similar theme, the person who thought they were the last one ends up meeting up with someone else. A story where one really was the last of their kind could be transformational. Thank you for getting me thinking, Beverly.
ReplyDeleteFor some reason it reminds me of The Last of the Mohicans. Although I don't think I ever read that book.
ReplyDeleteInteresting question you pose here Bev. Perhaps “We blew it — damn us! Damn us all to hell!”
ReplyDeleteHow sad and terrible to be the last of the species. I have no answers.
ReplyDeleteUntil there is one human left on the planet, we aren't extinct. Almost...
ReplyDeleteA sobering thought, Bev.
ReplyDeleteWe might be the last actually... at least our children will have to do a lot of cleaning afterwards.
ReplyDeleteto be the very last...I can't imagine it.
ReplyDeleteA very thought-provoking poem, Bev.
