Sunday Muse #95

Forgive me, I've altered this week's photo
a bit to fit my Sunday prose.  It's been a week
of momentous change, and I felt the need to
record it for history!!

I sold my 2001 Buick LeSabre today.  It was like parting with an old friend.
My trustworthy and loyal companion, it carried me and my travel buddies
many times to the Smoky Mountains for our annual autumn trip, to Eureka
Springs, Arkansas,  to Williamsport and Yorktown, to the Ohio Amish country,
to Minnesota’s Red River Valley, to Savannah, to Door County Wisconsin,
to Derby, Indiana, on the Ohio River, and Galena in Illinois.  We meandered
down country roads to obscure little restaurants and  antique shops tucked
away.  It carried us home with quilts, crocks and all manner of treasures.  I hope
it’s next owner treats it kindly, and I hope he doesn’t get too uncomfortable
when he detects the slight scent of White Diamonds perfume and faint raucous laughter.

  1. Oh dear, a rule breaker! No worries, Ma'am. I felt this way about my first and only brand new car, my red 1987 Ford Escort. It felt like an extension of me, and I drove it until it literally wouldn't go anymore. I still miss it!

    1. Thanks for understanding! I just saw a hand reaching from the mists of the past toward the future.

  2. I can completely relate to your story Beverly. A car can be like a dear friend, that goes with you to all the places you need to see. Always a pleasure to see you at the Muse. I used to have an S10 that I had for 11 years. When I sold it,I felt sad, and unfortunately it did not run a whole lot longer after that.

  3. LOVE this .... my 2001 VW Cabrio is still ticking but oh, the memories of whoever gets it next. OR, it might just outlive me. I have wandered the country too in my little convertible, many of the places you wrote so beautifully about.

  4. I had an old blue Toyota that ran forever. When finally I had to leave it at the wrecker's, I felt such a pang, like I was abandoning a dear companion. I still miss it.

    1. Interesting that everyone who replied seemed to have had a car to which they were quite attached. I know I took largess with the photo, but it pleases me I touched a memory in everyone!

  6. Awww, what a treasure trove of memories. I hope you took a picture before the new owner drove it away.
