SALT WATER MYSTERIES

Weekly Scribblings at Poets and Storytellers
have given us Salt Water Tales for our
topic this week.  I’m always enchanted with
underwater mysteries, hence my salt water
rhyme. The art is my own digital fantasy.

************

Lazy waves sparkle with sunbeams
Making easy way to shore
But beneath are deep, dark secrets
Enigmas forevermore.

Civilizations and pirate ships
Lie beneath waters blue
While tourists sunbathing on shore
Haven’t the least of a clue

The good ship Mary Celeste
Set sail in eighteen seventy two
And never were seen again
The captain, his family and crew.

And what of Flight 19
The Air Force flight of five
Who flew out on routine mission
And were nevermore seen alive.

I love the gentle sound
As waves make their way to land
They whisper to me of their mysteries
While I’m landlocked safe on sand.

  1. It's hard not to think of mysteries when looking out over the waves. The sea is a reminder that beautiful things can be dangerous.

  3. Gorgeous digital art accompanied by a poem that compels one to think of the mysteries revolving around the sea!šŸ’ I often wonder about the ships and planes which disappeared, and agree they are 'enigmas forevermore.' Thank you so much for writing to the prompt!šŸ˜˜

  4. Our willingness to embrace sea and sky travel always has that touch of fear of the dangers. I can remember one dog the family had, steadfastly refusing to go in the sea the day we took him to the beach but was happy to jump in rivers! What a great poem and illustration you posted here.

  6. I love the lazy waves in the opening line, Bev, sparkling with sunbeams, carefree and unaware of the deep, dark secrets beneath them. I also love the idea of the civilizations and pirate ships still to be discovered.

  7. Now I will never be able to hear the sound of waves without thinking that they are whispering salt water mysteries. And I like that. There is magic in the idea of Nature telling mysterious tales to all... through waves.

  8. A beautiful rhyme, yet sad and based on so much reality.

  9. Just thinking of the beach sets me to wondering and dreaming. You did well, Beverly, I was along with you here. I generally dream situations, hardly ever dreaming of the historical.
