THE SUNDAY MUSE
CANDLEOLOGY
Funny thing about a candle……
When burning, it emits a warm glow
saying “all is well” and creating
an atmosphere of content
When snuffed out, as if sending
its resentment into the atmosphere,
it emits an acrid scent
And those who’d basked in its warm glow
are left bereft and lost in limbo
wondering where its flame went.
A thought to ponder indeed. This is lovely Bev! Always glad to see you at the Muse!
ReplyDeleteThis is beautifully crafted .. worthy of more than one read.
ReplyDeleteHappiness, sadness and a sense of loss beautifully interweaved.
ReplyDeletewonderful <3
ReplyDeleteHa, I never thought of a candle as resenting being snuffed out. That is a very cool thought. Smiles.
ReplyDeleteThe alternation of warmth and chill gives me a shiver.
ReplyDeleteI won't argue, Bev. But for scented candles I am already "lost in limbo" with an instant headache.
ReplyDelete..
"sending its resentment into the atmosphere" - awesome.
ReplyDelete"as if sending
ReplyDeleteits resentment into the atmosphere"
Quite an interesting phrase.
Thanks for dropping by to read mine Bev
Much love...
Never looked at it that way before, but it is exactly like that.
ReplyDeleteWonderful poem for this prompt, Bev!
ReplyDeleteYou've blown not the bird away
ReplyDeletebut the flame of the candle.
And some wonder where it is.
Interesting thoughts regarding the flame and smoke. Perhaps the smoke is a sign of distress. Sending out an S.o.s
ReplyDeletethere really is something inherently sad about an extinguished candle flame, perhaps beyond just the symbolic nature of that image, but the actual lose of its light and the smokey spirals... well said bev, enjoyed this very much
