EARLY BIRDS & NIGHTOWLS

Wednesday Scribblings this week
feature early birds and night owls, about
which I‘ve something to say!.

I've always admired the earlybirds
it’s said they get the worms
but those of us who prowl at night
find it hard to come to terms
with their infernal cheerfulness
when we haven’t had our coffee
they offer inane conversation
and their speculations lofty
it makes me feel all grumpy
and I want to stomp my foot
and tell them their morning demeanor
is something up with which I will not put

  1. I don't fit in either group. While I can see and agree with your Early Bird analysis, I can also tell you this: most of you Night Owls don't make that much after-midnight sense either (esp so after 2AM).

    1. Then stop complimenting me on the poems I write in the wee small hours, LOL.

  4. I'm with you, Beverly. I kept my eyes propped open with toothpicks back when I had too be up early. Try to shut your eyes or even blink with toothpicks trying to stick your lids. Retirement is great, "except on Sundays." Quote from my blog entry today.

  5. Ha ha. I have to make quite an effort to be an early bird.... and I do love the sunrise, but my default is the opposite. Enjoyed your cheeky poem.

  6. "Up with which I will not put" is a saying which us school kids so many years ago were introduced to the idiosyncrasies of 'posh' English expressions by not ending a sentrence with a preposition! (Sir Winston Churchill used it I believe)

    1. I think you're correct. At any rate, I've always loved the phrase, but it's seldom we have a chance to use it!!

  7. I'm a mixture...I stay up late, and get up early.
