Quadrille #131 Welcome to Brian Miller who invites us to write a quadrtille of exacty 44 words using the word JUKE. Ah, memories!!
Well now, isn’t that a fluke
That our quadrille word is juke
Ah, let me count the ways
A nickel in the juke box
Saddle shoes and bobby sox
Those were the school days
Juke joints and dancing
Careless romancing
Cigarettes and smoky haze
Those were the days- a nickel in the jukebox!
ReplyDeleteThose last lines really made me think even more than the music all the time that has passed... now when even in the worst joint smoking is forbidden-
ReplyDeletea blend of innocence and well perhaps not in that last stanza...a bit of carefree youth once the shoes are kicked off...

All of it, excepting the cigs, I lived with you from bobby soxs and the saddle shoes to poodle skirts with starched crinolines. We were so darned cool.
ReplyDeleteYou conjure up an era! 😀
ReplyDeleteThis is absolutely delightful!💝
ReplyDeleteThose could be my feet, minus the watch. And I remember the sock hops where the shoes got piled at the side of they high school gym floor and we twirled and danced, and if we were lucky, got to slow dance with the "boy or our dreams"....and then back home....my guess is my mom would sigh, throw those socks in with my dad's white undershirts and boxer shorts and bleach them back to their wearable white. Oh the memories!
ReplyDeleteI really like how you manage to bring the scene and the time alive with just such few words. Very nicely done
ReplyDeleteFun trip down memory lane and I love the image you chose to go with your quadrille, Beverly.
ReplyDeleteAh, I remember saddle shoes and bobby socks, though I didnt own either. I remember "sock hops" too. How I loved to dance back then!
ReplyDeleteLove the images you bring up from another time. Beautifully penned! :)
ReplyDeleteTook you back, didnt it. Nice one
ReplyDeleteMuch💜love

ReplyDeleteI heard the ring of tunes from long ago as I read your fine little poem
ReplyDeleteIt would be amazing to go back in time to experience this era, since I missed it by a bit, but then again....I think you just took me there!
ReplyDeleteYes, those were the days Bev! Sock hops and drop tops at the drive in — with some innocent sin… ;)
ReplyDeleteJuke joints and dancing
ReplyDeleteCareless romancing
Cigarettes and smoky haze
Lovely close Bev! Gone are the school days of innocence and fun. Thanks for the memory!

I really enjoyed this - the atmosphere it creates and the way it reads so well with the last lines rhyming in your triplets.
ReplyDeleteSorry Bev, Didn't mean to leave above comment anonymously.
ReplyDeleteYou know, this really feels like you actually experienced it, Bev, which I know you did... you really conveyed a real lived experience perfectly!
ReplyDeleteYours,
David
