Sunday Muse #168
Airports and hotel rooms
Lonely nights in strange cities
Briefcase full of details
Employee negotiation
Manager meetings, client greetings
Keep smiling, make nice
Speak once, think twice
Software training, employees complaining
Remember, you’re the face of the company
…..and it will one day be only memory
stored in the attic of your brain.
Oh the life of a person working the city grind. So much truth here, and a message that speaks volumes! Always glad to see you at the Muse Bev!
ReplyDeleteSo true. I worked at the same job for 31 years and now it's just a remote memory.
ReplyDeleteI love the message in your poem ... there are days I sit and reflect on my career. I didn't begin 'real' work outside our home till I was 41! Retired early at 64 to care for my Mom. I can only imagine "Spitfire Bev" in action.
ReplyDeleteAnd you'll pull it out of the attic in dreams, good and bad, sleep dreams and day dreams. That is the way we keep from forgetting. Practical, I've had four real jobs, a watch factory (three years), the U.S. Army (five years), Aerospace Engineering at NASA and a U.S. Satellite Tracking Station (19 years), and ending with being a College Business Professor (22 years), now retired (for xx years). I'm pulling stuff out of the attic for each of those, skills, mistakes, injuries, praises, job crushes and dates, . . .

Part time jobs also, when in school and when I had a real job going as well.

What a busy schedule hassles your words into a hectic image - in need of some work/life balance, for sure. I found this extremely interesting, as the original image spoke to me more of calm, than chaos. You certainly got me thinking about the subtleties of any creative process...
ReplyDeleteGreat atmospheric poem, Beverly. So true when you've got a job interacting with others in high pressure scenarios. I used to wonder if I worked to live or if I lived to work and most of the time it was the latter. So glad to be out of that grind now.
ReplyDeleteRight. What really matters in our lives?
ReplyDeleteYou capture the reality of corporate work in your brief poem... a poem based on personal experience I am sure. Excellent poem !
ReplyDeleteLuv the way the image juggled your words today
ReplyDeleteHappy Sunday
Much💜love
A dilemma of modern world. The rat race and its repercussion, a perfect take of the prompt.
ReplyDeleteRemember, you’re the face of the company
ReplyDelete…..and it will one day be only memory
It is a great assertion, love it! A responsibility shouldered to be seen in the best light as expected of all employees, big or small! Thoughtful write Bev!

So much rush and learn eventually will be shelved in a dusty attic mind. Love your take on the image. Thank you for your comment on my blog header. It is one of my art creations. I'm thinking of getting it printed.
ReplyDeleteVivid poem and exhausting!
ReplyDeleteHyper times 10, scratch that to do list, vacation day today! Retirement come on I’m ready!
ReplyDeleteYou created an atmosphere that can be seen and felt.
