Tuesday Poetics and we're asked to step into the gothic realm. It's usually far from my wheelhouse, but I'll avvago. Submitted to dVerse, December 15, 2020
***************
The castle stands silent, foreboding.
Evil dwells here, it’s said
Those who plan to spend the night
Will be found mysteriously dead
Some say it’s the Lady of Darkness
Guarding the castle keep
Fie on those who enter
Now destined for eternal sleep.
None knows what terror comes to pass
Betwixt terrified screams and moans
But morning reveals their fate
In the form of skulls and bones.
It's definitely the Lady of Darkness who's guarding the castle. Love this Gothic tale, Bev 💝 thank you so much for writing to the prompt!
ReplyDeleteeternal sleep it is then. would love tostay at your castle
ReplyDeleteGroovy Goth, Beverly. Nothin left but bones. Salute
ReplyDeleteNicely (and creepily) written.
ReplyDeleteVery haunting!
ReplyDeleteWould it help if we attached Green and White striped awnings and hung colorful flowery flags from the turrets ... would evil be driven away? Might we save lives? I think we "superwomen" should take it on.
ReplyDeleteHauntingly fun poem and I won't be staying there any time soon.
ReplyDeleteLove the rhyme here Bev, especially:
ReplyDeleteBetwixt terrified screams and moans
But morning reveals their fate
In the form of skulls and bones.
Wonderful writing my friend!
Bev, I wouldn't want to go there as its a haunted castle being guarded by the Lady of Darkness.
ReplyDeletea dark rollicking rhyme of death ... nailed it Bev!
ReplyDeleteI enjoyed your traditional tale of terror, Bev. We one nor two castles like that around here.
ReplyDeleteA true Gothic house of horrors! Creepily done: I certainly wouldn't want to spend the night there...
ReplyDeleteJaunty and grisly like a good folk tale.
ReplyDeleteI wonder why anyone would ever venture to a place like that... curiosity kills.
ReplyDeleteI love this tale of a haunted castle!
ReplyDeleteThe mysterious Lady of Darkness sounds like a fun girl to get to know. I enjoyed this gothic tale, it hit all the dark notes perfect!
ReplyDeleteI like the way this builds toward the ending, Bev!
