It's Quadrille #119 and the word is "way". Limiting my verbose self to 44 words is always a challenge, I really must practice being succinct. I may need to explain that the Lone Ranger was a favorite radio show in my childhood. Submitted to dVerse, January 25, 2021
This way and that way
In and out
Backward and forward
Round about
Befuddled and addled
Struggling to see
Which is the best way
To sanity
I once knew the masked man
He was the Lone Ranger
Now I’m confused
To find he’s a stranger
We're all masked now, and strange
ReplyDeleteLOL nice one Bev. Thanks for dropping by to read mine
ReplyDeleteMuch💖love
Lovely piece Bev - for these maddening times. (I wonder if he's still playing somewhere?).
ReplyDeleteYes he is! I came across him in the wee small hours the other night!
DeleteWell, these days, there are plenty of masks to choose from.
ReplyDeleteWhimsical and fun, Beverly but at the same time disorienting just like the sign. We don't know which way is up anymore :(
ReplyDeleteCalling Tonto .. calling Tonto!!! He will know. Another fun rhyme which you do so well.
ReplyDeleteYour poem and your picture both made me smile! Seems Mask has lost all its stereotypical meanings!
ReplyDeleteLovely poem about the changing nature of people and the self and efforts that go into making sense of it all!
ReplyDeleteSome smooth and silky rhyme.
ReplyDeleteAwesome poem, Beverly! the ending made me laugh out loud!
ReplyDeleteThe Lone Ranger didn't wear his mask properly...
ReplyDeleteThis was excellent: a serious message done with a lighthearted touch. We're all lone rangers at the moment!
ReplyDeleteWell written Bev — we’re all masked men and women these days.
ReplyDeleteBeing an AVID Lone Ranger fan in my youth, I LOVED the end of this! I'm smiling ear to ear! :)
ReplyDeleteWith everyone behind a mask it's not easy to know any longer.
ReplyDeleteNow I’m confused
ReplyDeleteTo find he’s a stranger
Yes Bev, all masked up and all appear to be of suspicious characters.
Hank
befuddled and addled..what a wonderful sound that makes...and we are!
ReplyDeleteA rude awakening, to find the one you thought you knew is a stranger after all. The way to finding that out can sometimes be convoluted. Wonderfully told.
ReplyDeletea very clever shot at todays craziness ... and all done neatly within the word limit!
ReplyDeleteDoubt you fit in anyone's box
Wonderful poem touching on our times these days. Masked strangers everywhere it seems. Although, some we know just can't tell from behind the mask. So confusing.
ReplyDeleteThis is so cool, Bev!
