Nazca lines and Angkor Wat
Circled stones, hallowed spot
Petroglyphs on sandstone cliffs
Oceans hiding sunken ships
Pyramids in desert clime
Hiding secrets old as time
Signs of men who’ve come and gone
Leaving their footprints as time moves on
Dreams achieved and dreams defeated
History made and history repeated.
Time to ponder and search my heart
What have I done to do my part?
The rhyme is beautiful, and I like how looking at these "Signs of men who’ve come and gone" leads to self-reflection and wondering about one's own dreams and ambitions.
ReplyDeleteThis is beautiful everything fits into the theme... so reflective of the world. And thus makes one to self analyse. I love.

A great poem and a great question to end on.
ReplyDeleteThese two lines really speak to me of truths about life. I guess we are constantly learning.
ReplyDeleteDreams achieved and dreams defeated
History made and history repeated.
delightful rhyme about our wondrous monuments ... how can we even compare with these amazing achievements!
ReplyDeleteYet I believe we do with our immortal words ...
I am enchanted by these traces of the past. You have done your bit by adding your voice and writing about them beautifully!
ReplyDeleteI love the way you explored time and history through the marks humans left behind them, Bev, a rhyming chant in praise of those ‘who’ve come and gone / Leaving their footprints as time moves on’. The question will have me pondering!
ReplyDeleteA lovely gentle exploration of "old things."
ReplyDeleteOf course, I'd say not just men. 😏 But as Kim wrote, your question also leaves me pondering.
Important, your closing question. How will we be remembered.
ReplyDeleteYour contribution? Epic.
ReplyDeleteThe closing question is absolutely brilliant! Indeed, what have we done to be remembered?💝
ReplyDeletePerfect rhythm and rhyme and closing question!
ReplyDeleteI think at least you haven't put thousands of slaves to an early death
