Quardrille #124, and our word is "knot" or a form thereof. The word takes me to an evening campfire, and peace settles all about. Submitted to dVerse, March 22, 2021

EVENING CAMPFIRE
fingers of flame reach skyward
scent of wood smoke soothes the senses
concerns of the day follow sparks aloft
knotty wood burns long and best
faint breeze rustles leaves overhead
somewhere in the shadows
the fox is an interested observer
peace settles over all
I long for a real campfire like that... it's a wonderful moment.
ReplyDeleteIt sounds very peaceful. I like the fox watching it all.
ReplyDeleteI would love to be sitting at that campfire, Bev. I love the smell of wood smoke and watching the sparks from knotty wood – and there’s a fox too!
ReplyDeleteOur surveillance camera captured the fox's nightly route through our back yard, and we often heard his call at night. Did you know their call sounds a bit like a woman's scream?
DeleteThe forest scene is enchanting. Can almost hear the crackles. Enjoyed.
ReplyDeleteAhhh.... Can't wait for the last of the snow to be gone. Longing for some cedar smoke that I don't have to shudder to enjoy. Great work, Beverly.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Ron. We've moved from our forest grove with fire pit, but we have plans for a patio and fire pit. In my family, a campfire is a must! Enjoy your cedar smoke when the time comes!
DeleteI like the meditative visuals here with:
ReplyDelete"concerns of the day follow sparks aloft." Just reading that made me take a deep breath and relax.
Thank you. There is something immensely quieting about a campfire.
DeleteThere is something about staring into a campfire, examining the flames, forgetting the world. You took me there with this one. Nice!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Mish. Wish we could share a campfire!
DeleteVery nicely done, Beverly. Those pine knots smell so good as they burn.
ReplyDeleteI love the cares of the day floating upward as the sparks fly!
Enjoyed your take on the prompt this week. That fox sounds so zen observing it all from a distance. ❤
ReplyDeleteLuv the presence of the fox, wondering about the humans
ReplyDeleteThanks for dropping by to read mine Bev
much love...
Yes, "concerns of the day follow sparks aloft"
ReplyDeleteI felt like I was breathing out in peaceful meditation as I read that last line: just lovely!
ReplyDeleteI resonate strongly with this Beverly, and yes, that knotty wood is best of all.
ReplyDeleteThis is dreamy as only a wonderful wood fire can be, visually and in the snap, crackles and pops!
ReplyDeleteYou had a fox too. They're the outdoor equivalent of cats.
ReplyDeleteThis is a calming and relaxing piece to read.
ReplyDeleteYou've captured a lovely scene!
