EVENING CAMPFIRE

Quardrille #124, and our word is "knot" or a form thereof.  The word takes me to an evening campfire, and peace settles all about.  Submitted to dVerse, March 22, 2021

EVENING CAMPFIRE

fingers of flame reach skyward

scent of wood smoke soothes the senses

concerns of the day follow sparks aloft

knotty wood burns long and best

                   faint breeze rustles leaves overhead

somewhere in the shadows

the fox is an interested observer

      peace settles over all

  3. I would love to be sitting at that campfire, Bev. I love the smell of wood smoke and watching the sparks from knotty wood – and there’s a fox too!

    1. Our surveillance camera captured the fox's nightly route through our back yard, and we often heard his call at night. Did you know their call sounds a bit like a woman's scream?

  5. Ahhh.... Can't wait for the last of the snow to be gone. Longing for some cedar smoke that I don't have to shudder to enjoy. Great work, Beverly.

    1. Thanks, Ron. We've moved from our forest grove with fire pit, but we have plans for a patio and fire pit. In my family, a campfire is a must! Enjoy your cedar smoke when the time comes!

  7. There is something about staring into a campfire, examining the flames, forgetting the world. You took me there with this one. Nice!

  14. This is dreamy as only a wonderful wood fire can be, visually and in the snap, crackles and pops!

  15. You had a fox too. They're the outdoor equivalent of cats.
