MOONFALL
It appeared the moon had fallen
Leaving the blackbird, in quite a muddle
Just himself and this other fellow
Found it in a puddle
He thought “We must tell the others
They’ll be wondering why
Like us, they’ve become accustomed
To find it in the sky”
Well, what comes next, he wondered
As he pondered with a frown
T’will be a frightful puzzle
When the sun comes falling down
What comes next, the flooded worms and their like come to the surface if the aren't drowning, and the other birds will follow to the ground level for yummy pickings.
ReplyDelete"this other fellow" is his own reflection in the puddle. The white blob? We'll find out from future writings and comments. It is glued to the ground, it doesn't leave a reflecttion or a shadow.
We'll be watching the Indy, shared with the Colonial Gulf Tournament.
..
I'm well aware the "other fellow" is a reflection, Jim, and the "white blob" isn't the fallen moon ... but I'm looking through the eyes of the black bird, remember!!

DeleteAnother clever response to the image .... for adult and child alike. Would be fun to illustrate your poem .... Happy Decoration Day.

ReplyDeleteThis has the feel of a nursery rhyme to me. I can see a children's book built around this idea.

ReplyDeleteClever use of rhyme with an interesting twist. Who knows where the sun might appear?

ReplyDeleteThis was such fun to read - it made me think of Chicken Licken.
