exactly 14 lines in any form we wish.
I'm weary of the gloomy news of the day,
longing for better times and clinging to hope.

Weathered barns in distant places
Sun-kissed fields and open spaces
Tidy gardens weeded and hoed
Little white chapel by the road
Remembered faces, smiling and kind
Childhood lessons come to mind
Sun-kissed fields and open spaces
Tidy gardens weeded and hoed
Little white chapel by the road
Remembered faces, smiling and kind
Childhood lessons come to mind
Now jet flights and concrete jungles
Internet and traffic tangles
Drive-by shootings, prophets of doom
Everywhere, it seems, there’s gloom.

I wish we could bottle those carefree days
Of loving kindness and simple ways
And when we’re burdened and out of cope
We could open the bottle and sip some hope.
Of loving kindness and simple ways
And when we’re burdened and out of cope
We could open the bottle and sip some hope.
It would be nice if we could have bottled some of those good old days for our days now. We still have memories. Nice sound in your poem.

I think you speak for all of us in this one Beverly!

Why must it all come to this. How good it would have been to be back to the old normal. Apparently it be a long time in coming! Great lines Bev!

I'd be happy just to get out and drive around to see places I used to see, but joyriding is discouraged now :( Like Frank said, I wish I had bottled up some of those memories to crack open now.
ReplyDeleteThis is nice, Bev. I wish we could bottle those joyous times.
ReplyDeleteI think we need to rethink priorities and be happy with what we have. Perhaps if aircraft remained grounded and there was less international travel, if people stayed in their own towns and villages, instead of commuting, and learned to manufacture and farm again, we might regain weathered barns, sun-kissed fields and tidy gardens, and those kind, smiling faces.
ReplyDeletePerhaps those days will return, at least some of the less-rushed and over-consumed parts. Let's hope.
ReplyDeleteOh, to be able to sip that hope. Lovely thought
ReplyDeleteYes, I would enjoy to sip in some hope.
ReplyDeleteI would like some more hope... but I think in many ways a lot of things are really a lot better these days...
