RYOKUIN

For this week’s prompt, we're presented with a few poetic names from Bruce Hamana Sosei’s book, 100 Beautiful Words in The Way of Tea, and asked to pick the English version of one (or more) about which to wrap our own words.  I've chosen "green shadows" and "go search for fireflies".  Submitted to Poets & Storytellers United, January 20, 2021'

.

In the forest, among

the green shadows,

go searching for fireflies

as the leaves of the great

oaks whisper age-old

secrets.

Here is peace.

  1. It sounds like peace too. Mmm... I'm looking forward to summer evening rambles post-pandemic.

  2. Perhaps the fireflies hold our secrets. Wouldn't that be a delight?

  5. Best done in the dark with a net and a jar for their slow death. But that could be done and with less pain with a can of wasp spray.

    1. Jim!!! Shock, horror. I'm sure she wasn't searching for them to KILL them.

    2. I agree with Rosemary. We did catch them in jars, but always with holes punched in lids and grass inside, and let them go after we studied them a while. Fireflies make the night magic. My daughter, who lives in Oregon, rues the fact there are no fireflies there.

  9. Forests are a delight to explore aren't they? Where you can meet the birds and animals at home and listen to trees whispering overhead.
