OGDEN NASH ON MARRIAGE

Poetics challenge is to feature a favorite poet, use his name in our title, and write something in his style.  I’ve chosen Ogden Nash for his pithy humorous poems, specifically “A Word to Husbands”  I've chosen to write a sequel.  Submitted to dVerse May 18, 2021. Here's Nash's poem:

"To keep your marriage brimming

With love in the loving cup

Whenever you’re wrong, admit it

Whenever you’re right, shut up"

***

....and my sequel is as follows

OGDEN NASH ON MARRIAGE

To keep your woman happy

With love in the loving cup

The simplest rule is sacred

Don’t leave the toilet seat up

  1. Ha... I think that there are more rules than that, but they only comes after you have learned to shut the loo.

  6. Your sequel made me smile, Bev. I'd like to add:
Don't leave your whiskers in the bathroom sink,
and keep away from the washing up.

OH....I wish you were sitting here in my living room....or in my study which is down the hall and around the corner from our living room....even there you still would have heard me should out OH!!!!! when I finished reading your poem. Only if you were near me though, would you have seen the HUGE grin on my face. This is superb! And a fitting way to end my reading of dVerse posts for the night. SO SO FUN! LOVE IT!
