MEETING THE bAR, and Victoria is our host. She's chosen my favorite word, and thank heaven has left the form to us. Naturally, I revert to my standard rhyming verse (sigh). I guess I'm too old to change! Submitted to dVerse August 26, 2021
************
Bev, old girl, you’ve reached eighty seven
Most of your cohorts are already in heaven,
playing cards or dancing to a favorite song
wondering what on earth has taken you so long
Your old body pains and falters, that’s true
Be grateful you still have your wits about you
Remember your mantra and start each day
counting blessings. Days are better that way.
I love it... such a good way to see the day even if it's getting a bit lonely. At least we are here.
ReplyDeleteI love it, Beverly! Such a positive message.
ReplyDelete(Though it is sad to lose one's friends.)
Love it, Bev. You have a few years on me, and I pray that I have your attitude, worditude and verve when I catch up to you. Not to mention my wits. Always happy to see you.
ReplyDeleteYOU are the most witty, with it, wonderful 87-year old folks I have ever known!!! Keep on keeping on. And Woodford is a fine Kentucky Bourbon.
ReplyDeleteBeverly,
ReplyDeleteWhat more needs to be said when, as I can attest, it's wisdom and truth!
pax,
dora
Oh, I love this. It is sad but weaved so beautifully with wisdom and grace.
ReplyDeleteHa. Are you really 87? Sailin' through!!!
ReplyDeleteI sometimes forget that poetry is best refined through experience, gentle reflections, and the ability to hold one's head high in the modest pride of living. Poetry like this is a fine reminder of that.
ReplyDeleteLovelovelove IT.
ReplyDeleteLet them keep wondering what’s taking you so long to join them.
We, here, need you. And don’t fool yourself, age is just a number.
Lovelovelove this. Thanks for sharing.
Wonderful! You could do worse than counting your blessings each day.
ReplyDeleteIt really sounds like you're approaching every day the right way! Great poem!
ReplyDeleteOh, I do like this Beverly! Your still not ready to leave us and for that we are grateful, no matter what the deadbeats say! :>)
ReplyDeleteThis sounds like a Beverly Mission Statement. I love it. I'm sending this on to my mom, who is just a few years younger than you.
ReplyDeleteExquisite, exquisite, exquisite, and a delightful read
ReplyDeleteThis whole poem is absolutely delightful, Beverley! Bittersweet but hilarious <3
