Victoria Slotto is hosting Meeting the Bar
at dVerse. She’s requested “List Poetry”, which
neatly squelched my poetic urges! What follows,
I fear, is a bit grumpy.
Submitted May, 2017
I’m basically a happy person
Positive, I guess you’d say
But there are some things that annoy me
And fail to make my day
Such as
Alarm clocks
Rearranged grocery shelves
Slow drivers in the fast lane
Robo-calls
And lists
People who are perpetually late
Mechanics who move my car seat
Shredded lettuce on my hamburgers
Unloading the dishwasher
And lists
Wet morning newspaper
Unmade beds and clutter
Dishes in the sink
Donald J. Trump
And lists
There, now, I've made an effort
And tried to be a sport
This comes with my apology
I'll work on my comport.
Oh, this is perfect! ;) ha!
ReplyDeleteThis is a delight, Beverly. Most all of those things are universal... at least, as I see it.
ReplyDeleteYou rocked the prompt, kicked poetic booty, tickled my funny bone. I do a lot of open mic readings. This piece would score big with a live audience.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Glenn. I've never done a reading. Might like to one day.
DeleteYou rung my bell there. Robocalls, yuck. Grumpy Trump too. Yup, but the one about slow drivers in the left lane probably applies to me. I saw a bumper sticker that read: "I'm going to move north and drive slow in the left lane", made me laugh, but not as much as your list
ReplyDeleteWhoaa!❤️ This is absolutely brilliant! I can so relate to "Alarm clocks/Rearranged grocery shelves/Slow drivers in the fast lane/ Robo-calls and lists." Beautifully executed.❤️
ReplyDeleteWhat Sanaa said -- Brilliant!
ReplyDeleteDishes in the sink and unloading the dishwasher do seem to go together. If there were just some way to get them in and out of the dishwasher....
ReplyDeleteVery funny. I feel your pain! 😉
ReplyDeleteWhat a hoot! I'm with you on a lot of these. Great take on the prompt.
ReplyDeleteAah, I am positive you deserve to be depressed over these. I sure as birds am, haha!
ReplyDeleteGood list—especially the 'lists':)
ReplyDeleteSince you do not post as "indybev" on dVerse, I looked up all your blogs to get back to you. And I found much happiness. And also, that you are an experienced painter! The photo was not sharp, but I really enjoyed the art.
ReplyDeleteAs for the poem, I see that your idea is great. By making a distinction by the formally correct first and last verses in contrast to the lists, not ordered, you create awareness and amusement. The poem would have been perfect if the opening verse and the ending verse were perfect, speaking of rhythm and rhyme.
I wish you a joyful weekend!
Thank you so much for taking the time to explore my other blogs, and for your kind comment and input on my List Poetry!
DeleteOh I do love a list with a bit of humor... and some lists do bother me too.
ReplyDeleteBravo. Rocked the prompt.
ReplyDeleteoh I liked this....especially the 'wet morning ....' stanza!
ReplyDeleteHahaha, wonderful. Bevererly this is funny and clever and filled with so many "yes!" lines. What a great read. I thought I was the only one who went quietly crazy whenever a mechanic moves my car seat! Thoroughly enjoyed, thank you :)
