I try not to politicize my poetry, but on
occasion my muse overpowers me. Such
is the case with this poem, submitted to

Consider the right-fighter
We’ve one in the White House today
If you dare to disagree with him
There’s sure to be hell to pay
When he speaks he shows his ignorance
And embarrassing lack of knowledge
One wonders if he obtained his degree
From Kindergarten College.
He tells us Andy Jackson
Tried to avert the Civil War
Never mind that poor old Jackson
Had died many years before.
No sooner has he filled his staff
And everyone is hired
Than someone dares to disagree
And he’s shouting “You’re Fired!”
I try to hope for the future
But anxieties linger
If only there were a greater distance
Between “the button” and his finger!
I feel every word of this poem, Beverly. Have been so distressed, and it just keeps on getting worse. I can hardly believe it is being allowed to happen. But it appears the majority of the ruling party put party, power and the chance to get even richer before the well being of the nation - and the world. The government is supposed to serve the people, not themselves.
ReplyDeleteSometimes a lighthearted look at the current occupant of the White House is all that we can bear. Thanks for the Mother's Day chuckles!

You should see me chuckling while reading your poem
Thanks for dropping in at my Sunday Standard today
Much love
Love this.
ReplyDeleteHa... just saw that he tried to interfere with the launching mechanism for the Navy too... i hope that his fingers cannot press that button...
ReplyDeleteI also try to stay away from Politics, but the man just keeps pushing those buttons,

I love this. It's humorous, smart, witty with good rhyme. All that he is not.
ReplyDeleteAs a Mason I am discouraged from commenting on political matters, except when it come to encouraging others to get involved.
ReplyDeleteA superb piece of political satire. I enjoyed it very much! Indeed that last stanza is on a lot of people's minds. It is troubling in the extreme.
ReplyDeleteIf only there were a greater distance
ReplyDeleteBetween “the button” and his finger!
It gets frightening when one thinks about it! Not just humorous but a very witty tale, Beverly!

I think a lot of people globally share your views.
ReplyDeleteGreat conclusion. I echo that.
ReplyDeleteDeftly written, and would be most amusing – except that the subject matter isn't funny!
ReplyDeleteSadly so many still see this foolish bravado as strength. It looks as though you have many poets in accord.
ReplyDeleteThe button and Trump's finger is a treacherous combination
ReplyDeleteLove this to bits. I do hope he keeps his finger off the button...

That last stanza, especially, is particularly frightening! Well-written rant, though :-)
