nestled on the ocean floor
spiked fingers appearing
to reach upward
for the warmth of sunshine.
hiding its razor edges
from careless swimmers
home to underwater denizens
guardian of sunken ships
and mysteries of forgotten cities
wonder of the deep.
Wonderful underwater world, Bev! I heard a news story today of scientists who got coral to spawn in captivity...may be hope to rebuild dying reefs.
ReplyDeleteI've seen some beautiful coral reefs. Sadly, many are succumbing to climate change.
ReplyDeleteI would love to see it some time (for now the TV had to suffice) I am concerned about the bleaching of corals.
ReplyDeleteI too would love to see coral reefs, but I am not a fan of being underwater!
ReplyDeleteYou describe the allure of the underwater world so elegantly, Bev! 💝
ReplyDeleteThis makes me wish for the chance to scuba dive. What an amazing adventure it would be.
ReplyDeleteLovely poem.
ReplyDeleteGorgeous visuals conjured by your words.
ReplyDeleteIt must be marvelous to swim to the waters depth to see all the underwater beauty.
ReplyDeleteWonder of the deep are certainly varied and many. Creatures of various types and colours add on to the mysteries. Beautiful lines Bev!

I think coral is more romantic and appealing than precious stones: both involve some danger, but coral is mysterious and has the most amazing shapes and colours.
ReplyDeleteMysterious and takes me under the sea to the wonders there can there. Elegant and poised Poem.
ReplyDeleteYou paint a mysterious and exotic picture. Let's hope we manage to save the coral.
ReplyDeleteNow that you mention it they do look like fingers, reaching towards the sun. Such ancient, fascinating creatures as well as the ecosystem that grows up around them.
ReplyDeleteThis is a world most will never see. Such a beautiful place with such unique and beautiful creatures!
ReplyDeleteLike the ocean's flowers. Showing off for who?
ReplyDeleteI really like this. Perfect description, and like others, I think it would be wonderful to see it.
